Proposed 2022 Federal Pay Tables

Proposed 2022 Federal Pay TablesGS Pay Scale 2022 – The General Schedule pay scale is utilized to determine the wage of the vast majority of employees of the government. To set the pay scale for the government, the United States Office of Personnel Management examines salary surveys and pay information taken from the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics of non-government workers who perform the same work in federal positions. Knowing that the General Schedule payscale works will help you negotiate a beginning salary at your initial interview, and also your pay increasing as you progress into your professional career.

Grade Levels

GS-1 and GS-15 is the category of grade utilized within the General Schedule, loosely characterized by the difficulty, responsibility and qualifications necessary for a given job. In the General Schedule, there are split into 15 distinct grade level classifications. In the case of an occupation the grade level that is assigned indicates the starting compensation, with higher grade levels representing higher amounts of income.

The majority of entry-level positions those who have a high-school diploma or a bachelor’s degree may be necessary are classified as GS-1 to the GS-7 grades. Grade levels for positions requiring a master’s degree, further years of experience that go beyond the entry-level levels, or managerial or supervisory experience are assigned to the GS-8 through GS-12 categories. Advanced and professional qualifications are required for positions such as psychologists and doctors as well as those that require high-level specialists and are classified as G2-13 through grades GS-15.

Locality Pay

Locality pay is added to the base salary of a job that is on the General Schedule scale to account for the cost of living in the region. At the time of this writing, about 35 metropolitan areas receive a specific locality-specific pay, which is more than the usual allowances received by the remainder of the United States.

The standard adjustment rate, in this case of 14.16 percent in 2011. Yet, an employee in Atlanta gets a locality payment that is 19.29 percent, and those who work in Los Angeles receive a locality pay of 27.16 percent, respectively. Multiply the locality pay percentage multiplied by your GS base rate, and then add that number in addition to your base salary to determine your total annual wage.

GS Steps

There are ten distinct stages in each of the general Schedule classes that each offer an essentially higher wage than the one preceding it. For instance, the majority of federal departments and agencies provide beginning wages at the beginning of Step One in your grade. However you might be capable of negotiating “up” the Steps if you think your prior experiences warrant a higher amount.

Regularly, performance reviews are conducted following each performance review. After each study is completed, the team member becomes eligible for a raise equal to the next amount, at the choice of the supervisor or manager. The evaluation of performance occurs every calendar year, for steps One through Four however, it is not the case for Step Five, which occurs every two years. In the case of Steps 5 through 7, evaluations are conducted every two years. However, for Steps 8 to 10, they’re presented every three years.

Grade-Level Promotions

Career ladders are available for federal government employees in specific positions, such as administrative and professional positions that allow you to rise through the levels to be promoted to higher grade levels to be considered for the position you are applying for. Generally speaking, if this kind of career ladder job is available in the position you’re applying for it will be mentioned in the federal job vacancy notice.

Certain professions have ladders which ascend at intervals of grade levels (for instance, from GS-5 to 7 before moving to 9) That means that, if you’re promoted, you’ll go up two grade levels. Your yearly performance evaluation will determine whether or not you qualify for the promotion. Pay increments of several thousand dollars are often associated with moving to higher GS grades in Federal government.
